If you have a child that struggles to fall asleep due to bad dreams or monsters, then I have a solution for you! Bad dreams are part of normal child development. As a child moves from babyhood to toddlerhood, they start to develop fears. Bad dreams are the brains way of processing these feelings. So, if your child is afraid to go to bed due to bad dreams or a fear of monsters, then mix up a bottle of bad dream or monster spray for a stress-free bedtime and a good night’s sleep.
When it comes to a bad dream or monster spray, I prefer to DIY. It’s super simple and fun to make! Getting your child involved will make the spray that much more effective and exciting to use.
What you need:
- A spray bottle
- Stickers (ex: monster stickers)
- Water
- Essential oil (ex: lavender oil)
- Food coloring (optional)
To make your spray:
First, have your child decorate the spray bottle with the stickers. Then, add a label or write on the bottle “Monster Spray” or “Bad Dream Spray” or whatever name you and your child choose. Next, make the spray mixture. Fill the spray bottle with water and add the essential oil (2-3 drops per every 100ml). I suggest lavender oil because it helps to calm the central nervous system and is very relaxing at bedtime. Then add a drop or two of food coloring and give it a good shake. Now you are all set for bedtime!
How to use the spray:
Explain to your child how the spray works to stop bad dreams and keep monsters away. You can get as creative as you want with this part. Let your imagination run wild! At bedtime, spray your child’s room. Make sure to spray the areas where the monsters could possibly enter or hide such as the closet, under the bed, around the window and doorway. Make sure to give a few sprays over the bed as well for extra protection.
The purpose of this spray is to help your child relax at bedtime so they can fall asleep with ease. If your child has other underlying sleep issues beyond a fear of going to bed and you want to work 1-on-1 with me, check out my sleep programs or book a free call.
